Part of the reason we bought this particular house was because there was a big beautiful pond in the back. I just love water. There is something so calming about it. I'd love to live on a big lake! Maybe someday ;) But, for now, I have always loved our big pond...
... until this year that is. We have experienced such a drought for the majority of the summer. We had not had a single big downpour... not a single storm. By June, our pond was completely 100% dried up. It was unbelievable. All the fish- dead. All the geese and ducks- disappeared. And up sprouted the weeds. It was so so sad. (I mean, relatively speaking, of course, when considering all the things to be sad about in this world). Maybe instead I should say it was disappointing. VERY disappointing.
But FINALLY, a few nights ago, the heavens opened up and we had a DOWNPOUR... the entire.night.long! It rained and stormed and rained some more for hours on end. When we woke up in the morning, our pond was back! Just like it should be. Here are the kids watching our good friends (and neighbors) kayaking on the pond...

Besides admiring our pond, the kids spend a lot of time admiring the baby robins in the robin nest. This is the Mother's second hatching of this summer. Regretfully, I don't know much about birds- but I have learned that apparently they have a couple of rounds of baby birds each summer? It would appear so, anyway. This mother built her next last year under our deck and has used the same nest over and over again. The slits are just wide enough to peek down and get a glimpse.. first of the eggs, then of the newborn hatchlings, and then of the birdies as they slowly grow bigger and leave the nest. Now, as for getting down on hands and knees - like Ariana is doing in this picture- and pressing my face to the deck to get a peek, you won't be seeing me down there anymore (see below)...

.... because, as you can see, at 37 weeks I'm just too big (and too tired) to make the effort.

A few more weeks to go!!
