"Dear Jesus, thank you for this day. I love you. Amen."
Until tonight when he uttered two more sentences, but how simple- and yet how profound- they were. All on his own, he came out with the most beautiful prayer...
Dear Jesus,
Thank you God that you are alive.
and I love you very much.
and I do not like Satan.
and I do not want to listen to him.
Amen.
I smiled and kissed him goodnight and slipped out of his room thinking that perhaps I could do well to take a lesson from my son. Sometimes I get caught up in trying to think too much about finding the "right" words to pray when I want to communicate something "really important" to God. But the thing is, He already knows my heart. And, sometimes, less is more.
Thank you, son, for the reminder. Four simple sentences. But refreshingly profound.

All seem appropriate here. We can learn so much from little ones.
Thy little ones dear Lord are we!
How very sweet and how amazing. We all need to take the time to see and hear what our little ones have to say....how very much we can learn from their simple, sweet faith. God Bless!
SO sweet. I know your heart was smiling BIG!
:)

A child's faith is such an amazing blessing! How sweet!
Plus, we were just talking the other day too about "ritual prayer"...how cool that he has experienced genuine prayer and conversation with God through you. It goes to show, if our kids see us on our knees, they will get on their knees! And, that we recieve the wonderful blessing of learning and growing in our own faith along with them! You are a wonderful living example of faith being lived outloud! I actually just gave the sermon at church on this exact topic and the role that we parents have...I love hearing such a great living example!
Leave it to our children to teach us!
Let us be more childlike in our faith. We'd all be more focused, humble, and honest--wouldn't we?
Adorable little guy, Ange!
So, so precious to know and hear the hearts of our children come into their own relationship with God. I love his prayer and you know God was just smiling to hear words from his heart.
wow how deep for a little man!
That is cute. I have gotten a "no thank you" from one of mine for about 4 years. I think he prayed once or twice just in the last week. My other one always starts his the same: "Thank you God for this great day." Mine also say A-Tommy instead of Amen. I have no idea what that means.
What a honey of a prayer. And a honey of a boy!
So cute!

I couldn't agree with you more on this...less IS more. I try not to get stuck in "making my prayers fancy sounding" rut, and just pray from my heart. Hopefully I am teaching my children that, too. Although, I still get a "no thank you" from Taylor each night...so, we're still working on it! :)
My kids have taught me more about my faith than i could have ever imagined I needed to know. Found you through MckMamas and thought i would say hi.... keep teaching those kids to talk to Jesus!
This is so true Angela! If only more adults would just come to Jesus as a little child. A thoughtful reminder for us all.
That is the most precious prayer! Made my children and I smile. :)))
Have a blessed day.
You should consider having this put into word walls...check out this blog:

Miss you...and your posts!
