possible geography/cultural sensitivity lesson needed...

Grace (very excitedly): Hey, Mom! Look- this says, "Made in China"

Me: "Hm.... So, do you know what 'China' is?

Grace: Yeah! It's a restaurant!

Now, to be fair to my daughter - I have to add that she did, after a few minutes, change her answer to what China is. After I laughed and said, 'It's not a restaurant :)" She clarified... "Oh! That's right. It's a place far away and Mommies and Daddies live with their children. I saw it on Sesame Street."

So, she is half right- afterall. It is a place, far away, where Mommy's & Daddy's live - with their child. So- she was close, afterall.

Oh great post title:) I am SURE I wouldn't have had such a good answer for "what is China?" when I was Grace's age. She must be homeschooled! ;) Homeschooled AND watches Sesame Street...great combo. (And "Live with their child, oh boy!) And for what it's worth, I like some China restaurants, too:)

Too cute. My son took a big interest in China at Epcot. We saw all the movies there and went in the buildings. He was really curious. He typically needs many cultural sensitivity lessons...I couldn't list all the inappropriate things he says and usually it is in front of the wrong person!

Very cute! Such great teaching moments happening every day. Now if we could just keep up with them all, right?!

Here's what Mikey said recently: "Our ping pong table and Playmobil toys were made in Germany, we have a hat that was made in Vietnam, and other things made in different places. But most everything seems to be made in CHINA! Things CAN be made in America, but I guess we don't see much of that stuff."

Then I searched to see if all Playmobil toys are indeed made in Germany and I came across this website: http://www.chinafreechristmas.info/

Interesting!

Hmmm...I guess a lesson in world economics may be in store soon!
