For so long now, I've really been wanting a new washer and dryer. And here, I must emphasize the word "want" because it's truly been a want and not a need. Our 6 year old Whirlpool set has served us just fine. But oh- the front loaders seem so slick... so efficient... so - I don't know- fun.

The bells.

The whistles!

I can practically visualize myself sipping a latte while a new dryer folds my laundry for me. Oh. Wait. I don't think even the new models do that- but close enough for Pete's sake!

I mean, c'mon- look at this lady! Doesn't she look happy? Enjoying her - I don't know what, probably fancy home decorating coffee table book- as she leasurly sits on the floor (in front of her slick washer and dryer) and enjoys some "me" time? I mean, she must REALLY love her laundry machines if she chooses to lounge in front of them, instead of say, on a couch, while absolutely nothing spins inside them (c'mon marketing department- you could have at least added some laundry in the machines to make it believable!).

But I digress.

This is what I've dreamed of- some shiny new machines that will "save me time and money" (at least that's what how I've been trying reconcile digging into savings to fund these pretty penny luxuries).

So, imagine my delight when my dryer stopped performing! Okay. I cannot tell a lie. It did not completely stop performing- it just started taking my laundry longer to dry.

Bingo! Off to Sears we went... Consumer Report in hand. I didn't blink- just charged full steam ahead and choose the top performer (according to Consumer Reports, anyway). I mean, seriously- if we were going to invest, might as well do it all the way. So, you see that happy lady in the picture up top? She's sitting in front of my new washer and dryer. Except mine is not "platinum" - it's white. Because I was not about to pay an extra $100 just for a specific color. "Neat white"- as it's called- will do just fine, thank you.

Here's a little aside for you: When my husband was pulling out the old dryer so it could be hauled away- guess what he discovered?? A bird's nest in the vent! The point being- my dryer was not underperforming... we just had a birds nest slowing down the dry time! But I'm going to try to forget about what he found, and try to keep convincing myself that we really needed a new dryer anyway- and a washer to go with it was just a wise pairing.

So after my washer was installed today by the Sears delivery guy- I went to town. I stuffed that puppy with my son's comforter, sheets, shams and mattress pad... and probably could've stuffed it with a bunch more considering that it will wash 28 towels in 1 load... yes, 28!! I told you, ladies- I wasn't messing around when I made my purchase. I bought the biggest one I could.

Oh, I was soooo excited to press those little computer buttons and customize my cycle. I even used the "SilverCare" option- which releases silver ions into your laundry to sanitize (99.9%) your wash - even in cold water! Oh, the possibilities!

I could've just about pulled up a chair and popped a bowl of popcorn and watched that laundry spin for an hour... so exciting. As an added bonus, they make cheerful happy musical chimes (really more like songs) at the beginning, during, and at the end of the cycle. Does it get any better than that? I mean, what housewife doesn't need a little musical encouragement to get her through the day?

Fast forward a few hours later...

My husband steps into the main floor restroom (our laundry room is on the top upper level, mind you, just above the main floor restroom)- and quickly exits explaiming, "The waters leaked through the ceiling!"

Turns out- some things are just too good to be true.... and even that first exciting load of laundry in my new super machines has presented us with a challenge.

Would you like to take a look for yourself?

I'm not sure what will become of it, but I'm on it. Of course, I called Sears right away. Claim filed. New guy coming out tomorrow to reinstall.
Sometimes- things are just too good to be true. That excitement of that first load of laundry in my sparkling new fancy pants washer didn't turn out quite as I had planned. The damage will probably cost more to repair than the entire set cost in the first place.

Here's to hoping installation #2 makes less of an "impact" - and more of a (positive) impression!
I'll let you know.

Oh! And if anyone needs some laundry sanitized in cold water- yeah.... you know who to call ;)

I had to laugh at this. I could have wrote this post, minus the leak. I wanted one of those front loaders so bad and when I got it. I hated it. And I know I pretty much stand alone here. Three young children who not only wanted to watch, but wanted to change the channels of this new kind of entertainment. Tears as they watched stuffed friends, smelly blankies and favorite clothes get soaked and spun. Not to mention I must be lazy as the bending over to load the dirty into it was a pain, and then to learn that you can't turn everything on, go potty and come back and load, that would be the beginning of a big water mess. I am back to old school washing and loving it. How can I be so weird, I don't know but oh the joy of when I first used it.

I think I'd be pressing them to pay for the repair of the damage. I'm sure their guys have insurance for these instances!!!

I own front loaders only because my mom was like the commenter above me, she hated them so she gave me these last year when I moved and I gave her my old set of top load washer that was 11 years old and she loved it LOL!!
