Sal...

Being a home school mom, and all, I'm always looking for non-conventional ways to "teach" the kids about the world around us. So, when I nearly backed over a slimy 6 inch black amphibian - I knew I had hit jackpot! The little bugger had somehow made it into our garage! It took some coaxing and some scheming, but I finally got him trapped in a bucket.

I was so proud! I ran inside, like a kid with candy and shouted to my husband and kids- "Look! Look what mommy found!!" And we all gathered round to explore inside the bucket...

There he is! Sal... the Salamander. What else could we name him but Sal? Seriously, isn't every salamander named Sal?

Ariana was, perhaps, the most excited out of any of us...

Let's get a close look- shall we?

Let's pet him, shall we? On second thought- no, no, Ariana!

Of course, we did not keep our little buddy. We carried him safely down towards the pond...

And off he went!

Way to go, Momma! Any mom who catches critters just for her children to enjoy is a hero in their eyes!

I'm sure they'll want to return the favor some day and thrill you with their creepy crawly finds!

My kids have *surprised* me by trotting their new finds through the house with the critters in their hands. Not what I usually want to see while I'm preparing dinner!

We had two of these in our garage recently!! After inspecting them and being all excited, we let them go. We should've been smart like you and carried them all the way to the pond. The next day I had to explain to the kids what the flat black thing with blood and guts coming out was that was laying on our driveway. Oops!

So cute! And I know this experience will go down in their books as a 'Cook Mama' moment!

Now, about the candy purchase--
well, Honey, it was on sale. It doesn't matter if there was Halloween candy all over the house already, because that new candy was a steal! A good sale trumps an already-full candy stash anytime!

Blessings!
