Wow- 5 days gone by and no post!! Yes, last week was quite busy. But, I'm back.
You know, people often comment to me - "I don't know how you do it." The whole staying home, and home schooling, and taking care of little (crazy) toddler baby, and working from home.... as in, they don't know how I find the time. And, honestly, none of that seems like a big deal to me. What I marvel at, is how I find the time to read ALLLLLLLLL of the magazines that come to our house each week/month. I will admit. I am a magazine junkie. And I read pretty much all of them. I happened upon a discussion with some other Moms about magazines and what they were reading. When they asked me what I read, well- let's just say it took me about 10 minutes to finish the list. And they were quiet. And probably a little shocked. And- well, they probably knew me a WHOLE lot better than they had just known me 10 minutes prior. Because it made me think- you know, the magazines we read really are an interesting reflection of who we are as people and what interests us.
So- I thought I would play a little "get to know you" game. I am curious to know- what magazines do YOU read?? What subscriptions faithfully come to YOUR house?
In case you are wondering who I am (aka "what I read") here goes:
1) People
2) Us Weekly
3) Natural Health
4) Natural Solutions
5) Popular Photography
6) Real Simple
7) Better Homes and Garden
8) OK!
9) Parents
10) Parenting
11) Old Schoolhouse
12) Money
13) Fortune
14) Smart Money
15) Consumer Report
16) Shop Smart
And- for what it's worth - my husband gets his own fair share of fodder for the mind, the couple below (that he receives) I also read:
- PC World
- PC Magazine
So- there you have it. There "I am." Those are the things that interest me.
Oh- and, disclaimer**** I don't just read magazines. I actually spend most of my time reading BOOKS. If that happens to say anything about who I am, I am currently reading the following:
1) "Grace for the Moment Daily Bible"
1) "For the Children's Sake"
2) "Educating the Whole-Hearted Child"
3) "Say Goodbye to Whining, Complaining and Bad Attitudes"

How fun to see ALL that you read! That IS quite the impressive list of magazines!!! :-)
Oh...I just recently finished reading "Someday"...I can't even tell you how much I LOVE Karen Kingsbury...and the Baxter family as well!! I feel like I really KNOW them, you know (I know that they aren't "real"...but still!)?? GREAT books...I am so sad that there is only one book left!
I am also reading "Sacred Parenting" right now by Gary Thomas. I have many books on my list that I want to read next...but, I can only seem to read one non-fiction book at a time!
Next on my list are "Grace-based Parenting" and "Help for the Harried Homeschooler" - both recommended by a great friend of mine!!
Thanks for sharing your "reads" as well...that "Educating the Whole-Hearted Child" looks right up my alley! :-)
You must be a speed reader!
I've put a stop to most of our magazine subscriptions since they would sit in their little plastic wrap for way too long.
I go get Prevention and Catholic Digest (which still mostly go unread). Joe gets Kiplingers and Sports Illustrated--neither of which I look at.
For personal book food lately, I've been reading "A Literary Education", "A Charlotte Mason Education", and last night I cracked open my grandfather's copy of "Hamlet" I just realized I had on my bookshelf! I've also been thumbing back through "Screwtape Letters" which is sitting on my nightstand.
If this counts, Joe and I occasionally read our Dave Barry rip-off calender together as well!
I'm right there with ya on the magazines! I love my rags! I am currently in the middle of the book "You're Not the Boss of Me" and it's pretty cute.
May I please borrow the "Say Goodbye to Whining, Complaining and Bad Attitudes" book when you're done? I would love to read that one! Thanks!
I LOVE that you added your book list. I want the "complaing" book.
And, I am marveled at your magazine list. When do you usually find yourself reading them?
Right now I have:
Family Fun and Creating Keepsakes meeting me at my mailbox. My Real Simple subscription just expired.
Although I'd love to add:
Natural Health and Solutions to my list.
Maybe you should make a once a week post about something you learn in those magazines.
The only magazine that comes faithfully to our house if my free subscription to Kraft's Food & Family. Half the time I browse through it and in the trash it goes.
I used to subscribe to one or two but they either lay here unread cluttering up. Or I'd read htem then they'd lay here cluttering up whatever space I laid them down on until I got in the mood to purge then in the trash they'd go.
I read more books ;0) As you can tell if you've seen my bookshelf or book blog listed on my 'home'blog. LOL!
I actually checked out Jodi Picoult's new book today and have read quite a bit of it already while sitting in the sun in the yard while the kids played.
Wish that YOU could have joined us today as well on our field trip!!! :-)
I'm shocked and impressed. Oh my. Love this post - what a great thing to see. Wow. For the last year I have gotten Southern Living, Tennis, Parenting, Focus on the Family booklets, Several Airplane Magazines, and Family Fun. I have them all saved stacked up on my fireplace - a whole years worth and I haven't read a one of them. I will, though, and I refuse to throw any of them away. I also had mini subscriptions to People and have gotten Entertainment Weekly many times until it stressed me out too much that I couldn't read all of it. I think I forgot Family Circle and Better Homes and Gardens. My neighbor drops off Home and InStyle and my Mom brings me all of her leftovers as well. They are piling up and taking over the house. I'm stressed. I better go read.
It sounds like you need a vacation to my house to read all of this stuff I can't get to. Do you read cover to cover or just the interesting stuff. I like to read cover to cover before I can toss. I have a problem.
Oh, I get Weight Watchers and today I read part of People standing in line at the store. There.
